Pole Choreographer of the Year was announced on March 15th during the International Pole Championship in Hong Kong!

Natasha Wang performing Black Swan at GND

This routine was inspired by the Darren Aronofsky’s motion picture “Black Swan”. It explores the psychologically-challenging experience of trying to attain perfection at the cost of one’s sanity. Through this battle of the mind the dancer is lured to the dark side and is overcome by her discovery of her evil alter-ego. Ultimately she is torn between two worlds and succumbs to the pressure, which leads to her own demise.

The black and white costume, which integrated real feathers and textured skin-like fabric, was designed by pole dancing designer, Kelly Maglia. Consequently, Kelly Yvonne choreographed the routine to highlight the good and evil sides of Natasha’s character as it evolved through the performance. The pole often visually “split” Natasha in half to intentionally emphasize her gradual bifurcation.

Natasha’ s tear-jerking performance received a STANDING OVATION at its completion and secured her fate as the next USPDF champion in May 2011. In addition to a national title, Natasha won $5,000; an all expense paid trip to Australia to perform in the 2011 Miss Pole Dance Australia competition; and a UK promotional tour with performances, appearances and workshops.

Kelly Yvonne is honored to be recognized internationally for “Black Swan”. She hopes to continue to create pole dance routines and is proud to be a part of the artistic pole dance movement.
